George Henry Carter (1805-1823) - Eastern Cemetery, Portland

Sailor and Namesake

September 20, 1823, George Henry Carter died at sea. He was 18, the son of Josiah and Lydia Carter, and probably the nephew of Theophilus Carter, an "American Seaman."

George Edward, a half-brother, had been born about the time George Henry died, and passed away at age four. The brothers are memorialized on the same stone and are surrounded by their mothers and other family members.
